Adolescence is a blazing time in the life of our sons, a time of burning passions, searing intellect, and wild conflagrations. Untutored, this fire can destroy all it touches, but with considered guidance, it can provide a vital warmth and an inner light to see in darker times.

So what does it take for boyhood to end, so that young adulthood might begin? And what is asked of us as parents as our son shows the first signs of maturation, and the estrangements that attend its subtle announcements?

These are some of the wonderings at the heart of this course, where we come together with all our love for our boys, and all the poverties of our times, to do our best to craft humans, in a time that so sorely needs their appearance amongst us.

What we’re doing here is democratizing our sons rite of passage, bringing it back to where it is most needed, at home, in community. It may indeed be how community is made possible and survives. That’s the task we’re seeking to approach, to explore, and to take on, together.
